Description

Emblematic Addition

Presence of School of Architecture in a place of a seminary with such exceptional past history poses challenges for every new proposal on this context. It calls for a sensitive assessment to maintain “the vital cultural continuity” while introducing a progressive and intensive Architecture to do just to the spirit of its Counter Reformation origins; to create a union of dissociations through faith.

This proposal asserts following principles and aims to engage with the context through the following guide lines:
1- Not to touch the existing fabric and tectonics of the site.
2- Not to demolish or physically alter the existing buildings in any shape or form.
3- To introduce a new and contrasting element primarily to make the existing context more noticeable, visible and appreciated through introduction of a directional axis, an open forum connected to an amphitheatre and a central atrium space to unify the courtyard with the connected buildings, facilitates the circulation within the complex creating a large open exhibition space for variety of functions and to introduce a layer of creative Green Design for solar gain and water retention.
