THE COURT WITH THE TREE IN CIRCLES
The new addition is totally underground, placed under the exist¬ing court pavement: the only façade is facing north where the ground is at a lower level.
The main entrance is from west, through a ramp going down and arriving under the existing side entrance. The floor level of the foyer has been brought down to arrive with enough height below the court pavement.
At the cross of the axes of interior façade, is placed a glassed conic hole that bring light inside the new addition. In the centre of the hole is planted a tree who visually connect the two Ievels (court and underground addiction) and that remember the ancient tree that has been in the court since centuries.
There are three radial corridors arriving at the circular distribution space around the hole: one arriving from the west foyer, the other two connecting the south-east and north-east court corners where there are the staircases of the vertical distribution. Beside the north-east corridor there is a new elevator tower connecting all Ievels with glassed footbridges. With this elevator and with the new underground distribution the all existing building can be reached by disabled person.
The corridors have glassed roof near the existing building bring¬ing light inside.
In the new addiction are placed the amphitheatre, the exhibition room, laboratories, bathrooms, installations and a café. The amphitheatre has gradins that increase the internal height from 3 to 4 metres and can be divided with sliding walls in two separated room. It can be used also separately from the rest of the building because it has direct entrances from outside. The three main entrances from west to the underground foyer, from north to the court and from the south parking area are emblematically marked with glassed roof slab supported by branched wood structure.
