More Forest
Eager to express our great support for the profile of your organisation, we are hereby thrilled to present our architectural answer to your question.
The core of our concept focuses on the relation which human beings attempt to develop with their natural surrounding, the main task being therefore to investigate and capture the nature of emotions that are created while being in the forest, to understand what were its physical features responsible for the pleasure we feel, and how can they be transmitted into architectural materiality. We also tried to consider the employment of the innovative materials and technologies as to best meet the profile of your organization.
Our IDEA can be described in reference to the following points:
FORM & AESTHETICS: attempt to escalate the feelings evoked in the forest: the verticality of the trees, multitude of the plans, the reflects of light filtrated by a permeable skin. Hence, the vertical form, revealing numer of plans, not all of the space visible at once, the wings partly hiding some spaces. We tried to reflect the structure of the forest: seemingly chaotic yet subjugated to certain rules. The form refers also to the soft slope of the hill.
EMOTIONS: the feeling of secret, catching only a glimpse of a view; hearing the rain tapping on the ?wall", sun playing on it and visible inside.
FUNCTION: the entrance with wood storage, shelf and PV battery, then the hearth, a bench and little steps, leading to the living and sleeping area, more generous in space, open to the great vue on the south.
CONSTRUCTION: construction frame composed of simple timber frames, joined and placed following the same rule as the movable screen or a concertina-shaped object, reinforced by knee braces at both ends. This kind of construction is very light and easily-transportable.
MATERIALS: we used typical materials of timber and stone for the fundaments. The skin of the cabin, in order to highlight the construction, is semi-transparent. We used the ETFE foil1, which is not only light, resistant, waterproof and self-purifying, but also 100% recyclable, non-flammable and relatively cheap. While placed doubled also a very good isolant.
TRADITION: our design relates to timber frame constructions but also to wigwams in terms of heating (instant), and employment of an architectural skin rather that a rigid wall. The foundations and hearth recalls traditional ones.
ECO & TECHNOLOGIES: all the materials used are 100% recyclable. We also suggest to use some second-hand elements such as windows and doors. PV are placed on the solid parts of the roof. The energy accumulated serves to light up the construction inside.
COST: the low cost thanks to the usage of local materials for the construction, 2nd hand elements, light and easily-transportable elements and low costs of exploitation (temporary heating, solar energy, possibility of great thermal isolation).
We hope that the solution, being at time intriguing, expressive and subtle, as well as use of innovative materials, second-hand elements and eco-friendly technologies could form a trademark for your organization.
