Focusing on the needs of society, the project presents actors who appear in the city center. Each of them is at a different age and from a different social group. This helps to clarify the project's goals. the following difficulties have been identified for society: 1. limited pedestrian communication. The city have a lot of parking lots, expended car communication, but lt is hard to move a round by feet. One of main cause of this problem are train tracks, which go throw whole city. lt is hard to cross them. 2. What is more, in Sudbury despite of surronded nature there is a deficit of attractive walking and cycling paths. 3. ln the city center there is lack of green areas. Most of the open space is is intended for a large parking lots. Unfortunately most of them are made of water-impermeable material. 4. What more we can say about city center is their inconsistency. lt is hard to define its place or boundries. Sudbury is a small city in Canada, but with a lot to offer. There are mines and research centres. it is surrounded by the goods of nature, great lakes and vast forests. Despite this foundation, the city centre is undeveloped, empty and unattractive. every part of the city is divided and Sudbury doesn't have so-called, the city heart" which refers to urban centre. we propose to create a bridge structure. it will merge the city and will be one big catalogue full of attractions for every citizen and tourists based on their needs. Focusing on the needs of society, the project presents actors who appear in the city centre. Each of them is at a different age and from a different social group. This helps to clarify the project's goals. the following difficulties have been identified for society:
1. The city has a lot of parking lots, expended car communication, but it is hard to move around by feet. One of the main cause of this problem is train tracks, which go across the city centre. lt is hard to cross them by pedestrians or cyclists.
2. What is more, in Sudbury despite of surrounded nature there is a deficit of attractive walking and cycling paths.lt does not encourage residents to walk or cycle, which could restrict car transport.
3. ln the city centre, there is a lack of green areas. Most of the open space is intended for large parking lots. Unfortunately, most of them are made of water-impermeable material. lnstead of an open-air car park, the city can implement vertical parking with greenery on their roof.
4. What more we can say about Sudbury city centre is its inconsistency. lt is hard to define its place or boundaries. Because of the lack of a defined city centre, citizens have no meeting spots, where the city life can take place.
5. One of the most important tasks to create a community of the citizens is to define their identity. Because of the undefined city centre, Sudbury does not have space, which can show its culture or history of the region. lt is not important just for citizens, but also for tourists. If a city will be attractive and has a defined identity, people will be visiting it. So it is also important for Sudbury's economy and status.
6. Sudbury is disorganised, train tracks across the whole city, undefined city centre and unfriendly located functions. ln the heart of the city, a lot of space is intended for industrial facilities. This type of functions works better outside the city or on its boundaries. If we move it outside Sudbury we have more space for facilities suitable for the city centre.
7. Sudbury has universities, schools and research facilities. That is why it can be attractive to young people. Unfortunately, lt can not ensure affordable housing. ln the city, most of the residential buildings are single-family houses. lt is notjust expensive, but also a non-ecological way to live. Nowadays the city works on the affordable housing project, so in a few years, the situation could be better.
After analysis of the composition of city, greenery, communication, functions and future projects We decide to create a footbridge which will be a connector of the city. lt will help to cross train tracks, without intervention in soil. Entries to footbridge will be comfortable for everyone. There will be an elevator and ramp for people on bike or wheelchair. lt will make communication easier between the railway station, lake, housing area and city centre. What is more, we can enter the building on the first floor from the footbridge.
lt will also create a lot of new facilities, for example: playgrounds, amphitheatre, chill zones, open-air market.... They ail would be a good effect on the social and cultural life of inhabitants. There will be also objects, which could show the identity of Sudbury. One of them is the Museum of Sudbury, which it will be focusing on nature and science. lt would be an interesting point to visit by tourists. The other intervention is creating boulevards around the footbridge. These areas would be strictly connected with students who could create these spaces. We suggest designing wooden temporary facilities intended for exhibitions, workshops etc. Local art and science achievement might be also exhibit there. We suppose that till 2050 Sudbury will be dealing with different problems than nowadays that we cannot predict. Although, we can predict and assume some basics. Even if the technology is expanding and we can create more and more unusual abjects, we have to face the consequences of climate-changing.
We wanted to create something untypical, a new, original form, but still sustainable and connected to nature. ln the project, we keep positive and suppose that Sudbury will be still a city around nature pleasant to visit and live. Otherwise, we keep in mind that temperature, people habits, communication, building materials are going to change in 30 years. Therefore, we focus on cycling, walking and new express train communication, type of used materials, the importance of greenery and open-air facilities. What is more, we decide to expand railway station, because there is a chance that in the future People will be using just public, fast, ecological communication and that is why train transport will be very important. Another idea of the future, which we include in our project is agriculture in the city. We see how vertical farms or social gardening become more and more popular nowadays. We suppose that in 30 years it will be a common thing. That is why we suggest three proposais. First idea is to create more community gardens which locations are determined by the distance from the housing area. The second is a vertical garden in the city centre. lts construction will be connected with a footbridge to collect rainwater. We design the system of purifying and reusing the water in this facility. The last one is the results of previous proposais, the open-air market. People can sell or exchange vegetables and fruits with each other.
ln conclusion, the main element of this project is the footbridge. lt connects activities in the city centre and salves Sudbury urban problems.Because of lack of located city centre citizens have no meeting spots or place, where the city life can take place. which can define their culture and identity.
5. One of the most important tasks to create a community of the citizens is to define their identity. Because of undefined city centre Sudbury does not have a place, which can show its culture, history or character. lt is not important just for its citizens, but also for tourists. If a city will be attractive and has a lot to show, people will be visiting it. So it is also important for Sudbury's economy and fame.
6. Sudbury is very disorganised, train tracks across whole city, undefinied city centre and unfriendly located functions. ln the heart of the city a lot of space is intended for industry facilities. This type of functions works better outside city or on its boundries. If we move it outside Sudbury we have more space for facilities suitable for the city center deficit of affordable housing in Sudbury etc
We suppose that maybe till 2050 these ail problems will be solved, but still, after analysis of planned projects there could be better solution. We wanted to create something untypical, new form, but sustainable and connected to nature. Even that the technology is expanding and we can create more and more unusual abjects, we have ta face with the consequences of climate changing. in the project we think positive and we suppose that Sudbury will be "in one peace". Otherwise, we keep in mind that temperature, people habits and ........ are going to chance in 30 years. Therefore We focus on cycling and walking communication, type of used materials, importance of greenary and open-air facilities. What is more we decide ta expand railway station, because there is a chance that in the future People will be using just public, ecological communication and that is why train transport will be very important.
