Intentions
-The project takes its character from the historical and symbolic association with traditional port environments.
-It acknowledges the appropriateness of the public nature of the water's edge and extends this public domain across the entire site.
-The scheme sets out to heighten the engagement of the building with no context in general and the water in particular.
-Consideration of the view from the Citadel toward both the housing and the water conditioned the nature and expression of the builtforms.
-Continuity with the past provides the project with part of its identity: the relationship of building to water, the pile of piers, the shed, the conveyor, etc.
-The celebration of history has led to the arrival of Jacques Cartier almost 450 years ago being commemorated within the twin silos of the arrival plaza.
(From competitor's text)
Does not reinforce the existing urban fabric. It uses historical elements and tries to marry them together by using different vocabularies.
