The Main Access
Our proposal is based on the creation of an access path that ensures universal accessibility, while also introducing social spaces that leverage new features and welcome all audiences.
First, the transition from the sidewalk bordering the facilities to the forecourt of the Cepsum will be facilitated through a gently sloped ramp surrounding the existing staircase. This ramp will connect both the bus stop (sidewalk) and the parking area (to the right of the entrance) to the main entrance of the Cepsum, as well as to an open gathering area at the current location of the sculpture (to the left of the entrance). This ramp will accommodate all visitors and give them a choice of access route without having to use a separate, isolated entrance (as is currently the case). Social and gathering spaces will be designed following the principles of DeafSpace, especially regarding the shape of tables (round) and the inclusion of stopping points along clearly defined pathways, allowing for pauses to chat or rest without obstructing circulation. This conceptual framework will also be reflected in the interior layout, particularly the staircase, which will feature contrasting colors, tactile floor strips, and an inclusive reception desk that caters to all users. Our proposal is grounded in minor modifications and additions that enhance the experience for everyone, such as a floor guidance line, directional signage, and plans in both braille and standard formats to assist with navigation. Finally, the pedestrian bridge to the metro will be revised to flatten its slope, meeting the 5% incline required by building codes.
(From competitor's text)
The proposal relies on minimal intervention, mainly oriented towards a simple accessibility compliance rather than presenting ideas for universal accessibility throughout the whole user journey.
