ALL IN THE SAME POOL
CLARIFIED CIRCULATION AND CHANGING ROOMS DESIGNED FOR AUTONOMY
Accessing CEPSUM's pool, located on the fourth floor, currently poses major challenges for users with reduced mobility. The route is complex, unintuitive, and heavily reliant on staff assistance. Even those without physical limitations often struggle to navigate and orient themselves within the facility. Accessible changing cabins are limited, narrow, and do not allow for accompaniment by someone of a different gender. Once at the pool, wheelchair users face yet another barrier: the absence of an entry ramp makes getting into the water difficult, if not impossible, without help.
To address these issues, we propose a complete reorganization of vertical circulation and changing rooms. Three changing rooms are introduced: one for men, one for women, and one mixed-gender space, allowing people with reduced mobility to be accompanied with dignity. All cabins, toilets, and showers are designed to be accessible. The entrances to the changing rooms feature soft, doorless chicanes instead of doors, facilitating movement for wheelchair users.
Inside the pool, a gentle ramp replaces a swim lane to allow gradual entry into the water. Aquatic wheelchairs are made available, with a designated safe area in the pool for storage during use.
To reach the pool and changing rooms, a new stair and glazed elevator are installed within the triple-height space, clarifying and enhancing the vertical journey. These interventions aim to restore independence and fluidity to the aquatic experience, while celebrating water as a shared, inclusive environment.

The jury considered the addition of a ramp compromises the functionality of the pool, although the addition of an elevator and staircase is relevant.
