Bus stops are usually designed as shelters where passengers wait to board a bus, but can we call them public spaces? This project reinvents the site surrounding the bus stop, welcoming people of all ages, making their waiting enjoyable all year long.
In order to make the stop more visible in space, the design is guiding people through the rhythm of vertical structures, merging the form of the shelter with its surroundings. The structures are built with modular elements, that can easily be attached to each other to create different configurations. A set of smaller items was used to maximize flexibility and to make it easier for the design to be adjusted to specific site, budget and to allow executing the design in phases. The modules spin around the central axis inviting people to play with them, change the configurations and spend time exploring the possibilities and information.
We designed four types of boxes which respond to different seasons and weather conditions:
1. light box -
provides light and security in the evenings; a landmark of the bus stop. It creates a pleasant atmosphere making people feel welcome and safe turning the space around the bus stop into the public space.
2. warmth box-
made with colored solar panels, which produce energy for the light box. It also allows to heat up your hands by putting them on the surface of the panel on cold winter days. It gives the opportunity for the interaction between people. It doesn't use a lot of energy but is efficient enough to give warmth to anyone using a small gesture of putting their hands on it.
3. green box-
maximizes the surface of the greenery in the area; made with pockets filled with plants and the information about the specific species and their characteristics. With the appropriate choice of greenery it can be used to reduce the air pollution making the environment healthier and better place to be.
4. info box-
in a game-like scheme it provides information about various environmental issues, climate change and what actions can be done by everyone to reduce it. To entertain the user it is designed as a quiz encouraging people to find out the answers, get to know the ways of helping the environment and simply have fun.

This project proposes to constitute a luminous forest. Starting from a principle of modularity, which several competitors have chosen to adopt, given the repetitive nature of bus stop in the city, the project adds a playful and interactive dimension. The concept - highly cultural - is intended to be both educational and informative. It is of a scale that is as adaptable as it is reproducible and in so doing it responds to the possibility of its generalization. The jury considered that this proposal was an excellent complement to the generic bus shelter.
