Meeting on the church's stairs
For the lighting design of the religious and cultural center Le Gesù, our proposal is based on the fundamental function of this institution: education and knowledge. The Jesuit founders have always believed that the Gesù should live within its time by opening its doors to art and theater.
Thus, we believe that it is essential to revise the theater's access in order to gather the two vocations of the building by a strong and symbolic element. A new structure will take place in the main stairs' curve to frankly mark the theater's entrance. The intensity and the color of the lighting of the structure will be modulated by proximity sensors, according to the distance and the movements or the pedestrians.
The lighting of the upper façade of the church underlines the architectural characteristics of the building thus remaining, for the Jesuit, in a beautiful and sober chromatic color shame. Overall, the building is illuminated by a soft white light, to maintain its purity.

The jury appreciated the particular lighting evoking candle lights and the enhancement of the lower part of the façade. Despite the intensity of the lower part, the lighting of the higher part is well balanced. Furthermore, the visibility from Sainte-Catherine Street is resolved.
However, special attention should be given to the technical solution, in order to render the fragility of the flame.
The jury was sensitive to the yellow gold monochrome treatment whose color suggests joy and clarity, while providing a unique identity to the church representing a clever synthesis of the secular and the sacred.
