The design concept heavily relies on the place where the design is built & Iikewise this project is no different. The proposal is a mimicry of the wood or timber or their mother from where it generates, i.e. Trees/plants, which has always been and still continues to be the sole backbone of the economy in the region. The mimicry of them has been done in the way they structure themselves in nature and make their formation. Here comes the knowledge of fractals, very useful as nature is a fractal in itself. Like we see in the formation of plants, which repeats itself as it continues to grow.
So, with the help of fractals rule, from nature, which is self recursive in character the idea is to create an organic building in the site, which celebrates the prestige and economic stability given to the region by the boreal forests over centuries. Since Greater Sudbury is zooming into the new modern age, the designed building should be modern in character from both outside and inside. 50, as to achieve it transparent white glass skin ail around the fractal generated organic floors and walls, is conceptualized as shown in the preliminary concept diagrams.
The transparent glass skin is efficient climatologically also, in the sense that it welcomes warm sunshine through out the year and keeps the inside of the space warm and day lit. The organic floors and walls to allow to let only diffused sunlight in the space at the same time keepin the variation and complexity of tit to the highest orders.
A school of architecture should be an event which creates the inception of inter related, transforming, intriguing yet dissolved with blatantly vague mysteries and so forth there solutions. Each moment the larger whole of the surrounding seems to be the smaller fragment and unique portion of the next space and its spatial character. The building acts as an abstract machine, where we perceive the possible interrelation form the spatial needs of the architecture student and the shape the abstraction. The exterior is and the interior creates a balance between predictability to unpredictable, breaking the monotony of numeric and critical architecture in the landscape and interior. The design so forth presented is an attempt to literally transform the idea into 3D point co-ordinates which takes care of the history of the future architecture.
