Description

Back to the basicsi
We believe that all streams of education should collide. The architecture brought forward today is one that forces interaction as to induce collaboration. In the spirit of Northern Ontario, the building has a unique character that ''stems from a combination of the Boreal forest, the Canadian Shield and a dramatic climate". Not to forget the Sudbury mines.
Elemental
The program, rather than regarded as a list of rooms, was instead divided into a variety of elements, each with its own unique caracter. They were carefully designed as to maximize relationships with each other. Although they were treated as parts of a greater scheme, each of these elements functions with its own clearly defined logic.

The negative space created between these elements is in turn invaded by the studio to form a large informal ''carpet'' with minimum limits that spirals into the whole building. Clusters, rather than groups of students isolated in confined spaces, can then form and regroup endlessly to create what we believe is the perfect social condensator.

Implantation
The building, located on the north-west corner of Memorial Park, aligns itself according to its large scale neighbours in order to reinforce the seemingly ongoing shift of the city grid.
The existing parking lot is relocated a couple of meters underground to level itself with the adjacent Y's parking lot. The purpose for this is the creation of a new diffuse public space that reconnects all four corners of the city block. The school acts as a catalyst in what is now a new transitionnal urban path.
