From water to Tchè
A place of convergence and anchorage in an environment undergoing profound transformation, the Tchè at Place de l'Acadie is an invitation to forge links. In reference to the solidarity demonstrated by the former inhabitants and to the history of the deported Acadians, this home port proposes to interact together on the principles of encounter, sharing of cultures and values, as well as the accomplishment of the local population. The place will thus become the unifying element necessary to create a unique living environment, built on sustainable foundations, with respect for the environment and its inhabitants.
The removal of the old housing complex allows the site and those who still occupy it to begin a new life turned towards the future. This project represents an opportunity to help a site steeped in history and isolated from the rest of the world to move closer to the ideal urban environment through a participatory approach directed towards the local community. A meaningful gesture to recreate connectivity with the surrounding environment and the city will be to prioritize public and active transportation. The creation of an environment conducive to integration and social fulfillment will be the driving force behind the development of a new sustainable and responsible community.
Water is matter, water is life. It is also closely linked to the history of Acadia, but especially to the vital link established between man and the environment. Thus, in analogy to the Moebius strip, a blue path, articulated around the development of water, is proposed to the user of the square. This one becomes a real island of freshness that appeals to our senses, thanks to its diffuse cloud of mist, to the water mirror and to the cascading net that one crosses along the path. The transposition of the cyclic ribbon is also translated into a continuous network of circulations, which maximizes the accessibility and the use of the site. The effect of convergence created towards the center of the square then provokes the meeting around the "quay" and its strike, represented by the vast circular multi-use space that borders it.
This enclosed site has a history of its own that has marked the lives of its former occupants. In certain aspects, it is similar to the experience of the deported Acadians who contributed to the building of today's Quebec. In this perspective, the proposal developed aims to highlight this kinship and the spirit of solidarity and perseverance that it symbolizes. The commemorative dimension linked to the gathering spaces allows to anchor the past and to transmit a message of hope to all future users. It also proposes a cohabitation based on mutual aid and sharing. The safe pedestrian links between the square and the peripheral sidewalks, lead the user to cross a "green" filter, made up of several plant strips. They are guided towards the center of the square, where they remain in visual contact with the surrounding urban environment while being in the heart of a green, comfortable and protective setting. Particular attention has been paid to the views that will be offered on the square from the high buildings: the square will appear animated and attractive.
