NEXUS (100AA)
PRELUDE
Three pillars in three movements that intertwine and renew themselves in order to link the heritage of the borough of Saint-Laurent to its contemporary reality. The main visual tool is inspired by the circuits specific to the borough. These circuits will run along the facade of the church to display visual material classified under three themes: history, movement and multiculturalism.
STUDY I
(Dolce)
The opening of the projection (1) is done on the image of the Saint-Laurent church, symbol of the community.
(Animato)
From its windows emerge the circuits of primary colors that come together to merge into a uniform white at the main arch. We see here the connection between different cultures from different backgrounds.
(Allegretto)
The white arch recedes into the depths to become a "White Back" who cultivates his land (2). Thus, the story begins; the facade is transformed into a dynamic mosaic of photos (3) among which some regions take by moment the colors of the district.
STUDY II
(Crescendo)
Over time, the photos give way to an increasing number of color areas until the surface is saturated. At this point, the colors take on the form of circuits that escape through the windows (4).
(Attaca)
Everything becomes black.
(Con Forza)
Using blocks falling from the top of the projection, the church is digitally reconstructed to produce an image inspired by its pixelated logo (5). Then the surface comes to life. Some blocks move forward while others sink. The circuits of color run through the cracks between the blocks carving shapes in the stone (6). The church is in motion, animated by the circuits that represent the Laurentians.
STUDY III
(Allegro Forte)
The circuits end up losing their colors and freeze in a Cartesian grid (7) to then become animated in an abstract universe where the contrasts are at their most apparent, and where rhythms and densities merge (8).
(A Tempo)
Finally, the grid softens and dissolves to end on the opening (9) ensuring the cohesion between the various pillars.
RECOVERY
The concrete identity of the borough will be felt through the choice of images and forms that will be the subject of the first two movements of the video (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). Laurentians will recognize themselves through the mosaic of colors, images and blocks, each one unique but all close.
