Introduction
The purpose of this Downtown Plan is to guide the consultation and design of the Greater Sudbury Area (GSA); reimagining the city as a net-positive energy leader in Northern Ontario and beyond. The GSA boasts existing urban agriculture and urban greening efforts, we propose opportunities to improve Sudbury across pillars of economic success and invigoration, as well as social and cultural equity.
Proper Public/Indigenous Engagement
To best understand the needs and desires of local indigenous community members, the focus must be on inclusive consultation with indigenous representatives. While this Master Plan emphasizes the inclusion of indigenous symbolism and culture with all future accessible and welcoming. We propose a master plan that is ultimately pliable to ingenuity to account for an interactive, active, and inclusive design process between all community members.
Bio-inspired Urban Design
Biomimicry, uses the tried-and-true function of the natural environment, to inform how we plan, build, and manage built environments. Along with increasing the connectivity of nature through urban greening, this plan acknowledges optimal ways to improve human connectivity.
