Public Space
The proposal has a street pattern that subdivides the site into relatively small blocks that respect the scale of the buildings in the lower city and allow for appropriate connections. The small size of the blocks also facilitates construction, as it can be done in successive additions depending on the number of developers associated with the project and the state of the market.
The main elements of the proposal are as follows:
A main street in the center, which provides the main road and pedestrian artery between the northern and southern parts of the site.
Four north-south side streets in the southeast portion of the site that connect Abraham Martin Drive to the existing lower town. These four secondary streets are lined with retail stores. The central main street is reserved for residential use.
The creation of a green space is the final outcome of St. Paul and a separation between the residential area to the east and the market activities to the west. This space would shape the image of the market in the manner of other gardens and plazas in the city and provide an opening from Parent Square to Bassin Louise.
A side street off Abraham Martin opposite the transit terminal provides roadway connections to the existing site, as well as a view of the Bassin Louise from the west.
Two additional side streets off Abraham Martin provide roadway connections from the north to the existing sports center and residential development.
