This parti undoubtedly represents a beautiful synthesis of all aspects of a project well integrated in its components and in its environment.
Its compact and well articulated massing faithfully translates the quality of the grouping of internal functions. This volumetry is both faithful to the scale of the pedestrian and to the scale of the architectural components of the environment.
The somewhat formal elegance of the architectural facture of its elements has been noted, which however tends to become artificial in the treatment of the terraces at ground level. The entrance is treated in a remarkable way and well suited to the noble character of the Palace of Justice.
To an architectural style quite bold in relation to the environment, the authors of this project have shown a sensitivity of integration with the surroundings that is manifested by a subtle reminder of the roofs of the Gare du Palais.
It should be noted that several members of the Jury were particularly captivated by the originality of the design in the treatment of the courtroom area. The structural principle is well adapted to the expression of the spaces, the treatment of the ceilings and the integration of the pipes. However, this principle may limit somewhat the flexibility of foreseeable rearrangements.
As in the winning project, we note in this one an excellent distribution of the main functions around the atrium, which thus find their unity, animation and readability. On the other hand, it seemed that the functional organization of this building had not reached the degree of maturity of the winning project.
Finally, two other issues were carefully analyzed. The Jury appreciated the high level of human atmosphere created by the remarkable treatment of the atrium, by the variety and continuity of the centers of interest. Secondly, the integration of the works of art is concretized in a strong and original concept where a great diversity of artistic contributions are used to complement the masterpiece animating the atrium.
