The technological and material choices came from deep climate and micro climate analysis of Sudbury, comparing the last 40 years data. The strategies defence choice from the cold because the position and the daily lighting define very low medium temperatures from all the years. The energy saving polities forecasts iper-insulation, especially in the north side as protection from the cold winter winds; geothermic; radiating panels to reduce energy consumption reformed materials for the transparent closings (TIM - Transparent Insulating Materials) that reduce the dispersions and exploit to the utmost the natural lighting.
Italo Calvino, in his American Lessons, talks about speed, lightness, visibility, multiplicity and exactness like fundamental characters of the future literature. The idea is that we can extend these principles to the entire living and that the same principles will be the foundation of the future movement in its every expression. According to Calvino this characters seem to penetrate the architectonic space with so much force in every moment. The speed is dynamism of the spaces through view axes, lines of strength, energy, light and people flows. The lightness is the idea of the gravity lack, of the vertical movement of the volumes which leaves the tracks of their passage. The visibility is the recognition in according to, first, a cultural identity, second, the views relations of the work among its parts and contest. The multiplicity is a whole variety, space and materials variety that characterize it, expression of the present living of an individual and social life. The exactness is correspondence between volume and function, spaces rationality for the conventional destination and the reaching of the spatial qualifications to assure the greatest fluency and the best conditions for the development of the relative activities.
The dynamic flow of the tracks rises with speed and lightness, lighting up itself of art and crystallizing the movement in work. The landscaping system attracts the lakes richness and importance of the green places in Canada; the building observes the materials and local technologies - genius loci.
The project solves the urban empty spaces emerged by not-planned buildings and transforms a not-place in a point of identity. The building resumes the urban nets of the green parks, of the edified places and of the social relations points. The project exploits the big accessibility (railway and bus station), the approach of the city's representative places (City Hall, City Park) through point of view, characterizing, at the same time, a social environmental risking area.
